Close Reading is an effective strategy to improve reading comprehension. This strategy can be used with all subject areas. It ensures that all students are participating; enables teachers to differentiate instruction - helping those who are struggling and pushing those that are excelling; allows students to gain confidence in their reading abilities; ensures the best use of the little time that we have; allows for student practice with reading and communication skills; and provides joy when both the teacher and the student have learned so much during their time together. It encompasses - fluency, vocabulary, practice, dialogue, respect, confidence, note taking, the list goes on.
